HIBster SafeConnect helps schools run phone-free class time and helps families stay reachable while it happens. Your school district decides what is restricted and when. A student taps in once at the start of the school day. There is no class to pick. From there, the district's bell schedule controls when restrictions start and stop. WHAT IT DOES DURING CLASS - Apps your district lists lose their internet connection. They still open, they just can't reach the network. - Notifications from common messaging apps are quieted. Nothing is blocked, and every message is there waiting after the bell. - Numbers your school or your family approves always ring through. WHAT IT NEVER DOES - Calls are never restricted, at any hour. The phone's own dialer and emergency calling are untouched. - We never block, delete, or read a message on your phone. - We never collect browsing history, photos, or your phone's contacts. - No ads, no in-app purchases, nothing sold. HOW BLOCKING WORKS ON ANDROID (VPN DISCLOSURE) To restrict apps during class, HIBster SafeConnect uses Android's VpnService to run a local VPN on the phone itself. Android asks for your permission before it starts. Only the apps your district lists are routed into it, and their network packets are thrown away right there on the device. That is why those apps still open but can't load anything. There is no remote server and no tunnel endpoint. Nothing is forwarded off the phone, and no traffic, destination, browsing history, or DNS lookup is inspected, logged, or stored. The app keeps one number on the phone, a count of discarded packets, and nothing else. It is not an anonymity or proxy VPN, it does not change your IP address, and it is never used for advertising. FOR FAMILIES Parents can see what their district restricts, keep their own list of numbers that always come through, and reach the school office. The student's Emergency screen is always available and is never restricted. ACCOMMODATIONS Students who need an app during class can request an accommodation through their school. Schools can grant an exception without the phone ever learning why. HOW ENFORCEMENT WORKS Restrictions apply on the phone itself. A student can turn them off in Android's VPN settings at any time. If they do, the school simply sees that the phone is no longer enforcing. This is a cooperative tool, not a lock. REQUIRES A SCHOOL ACCOUNT Accounts are not created in the app. Only students, staff, and parents your district has rostered can sign in. It is a school-managed device management tool: a district licenses it and decides what is restricted and when. If your school does not use HIBster SafeConnect, the app will not work for you.
