Full description
Your phone counts every minute you give it. It has never once asked what you wanted from the day. Hewn asks. Once a day: did today count? It reads the screen time your phone already keeps and holds you to one bar. No feed, no badge counts, nothing built to keep you here longer. The app you open least is the one doing its job. CHOOSE A DISCIPLINE The Stoic, the Samurai, the Zen Master, the Soldier, the Scholar, the Creator. Four questions assign you one, because a list asks you to diagnose yourself with six words you have just met. Each wants something different: less time on the phone, less time in feeds, more of the habits you picked. The bar is three and a half hours on the phone, an hour of it in feeds, half your habits kept. If that is wrong for the life you actually have, change it. A limit you do not believe is worse than one you chose. A FIGURE CARVED AS YOU HOLD IT Your discipline has a form in stone. Rough, Emerging, Defined, Composed - four stages, earned in days rather than minutes. Days you have held are never taken away. A RUN WORTH KEEPING Consecutive days that counted. Miss one and your first save is free and automatic - no prompt, no purchase, just a note the next morning saying your run is intact. WHAT GOES BACK IN Screen time is what leaves. Habits are what you put back. Tick them from a home-screen widget without opening the app. The widget also shows what is left of today's limit, and your figure as it stands. SEE WHERE YOU STAND Your daily average against Ofcom's Online Nation 2025 - a regulator's survey, named on the screen that shows it, checkable by you tonight. What you will not see is a percentile. "Better than 84% of people" is the most motivating line this app could print and it would be invented, because there is no server here and nothing to compare you with. Your own past is the honest comparison, and the one that means anything. NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE No account. No sign-up. No analytics, no ads, no trackers. Hewn makes no network requests at all, so there is nowhere for your data to go. Moving to a new phone is a QR code the old one shows and the new one reads. HEWN PLUS Free, and staying free: the tracking, your figure, your week, four habits, the reminders, and your first streak save. Hewn is trying to become unnecessary, so it is priced like something you finish rather than something you rent. It adds the saves after the first, so a single missed day never ends a run; a second discipline once your first is Composed; twelve habits instead of four; and your whole record rather than the last fortnight. Two missed days in a row end the run for everyone, paid or not.
