Full description
Hankori: Learn Korean teaches you to read, write and hear Hangul, the Korean alphabet. After the letters come your first 418 words, the numbers, the time and the date. The app is a small world. You arrive by boat at a harbour, and Hoho walks with you along a street of shops. Every shop is one lesson. You go in, learn for a while and come back out to the street. One key switches between night and day. 글자 · LETTERS • All 40 letters of Hangul: the simple and the double consonants, the simple and the compound vowels. • Each letter appears stroke by stroke. Then you trace it on hanji paper: first guided, then faint, then from memory. • You hear each letter together with a vowel. Then you pick the letter for a sound and the sound for a letter. Later you write a letter you only hear. • The letters come in small groups, vowels first. Stars show how well you know each one. 단어 · WORDS • 418 beginner words in more than 20 topics, such as animals, food, family, colours, the body, school, weather, shopping and common verbs. • LEARN: before a round you see the words with their meaning and their romanisation. Then the letters of each word fall, and you put them together into syllables. • You collect stars for every word. Words you know rest for a few days and then come back to be refreshed. • The HELP switch decides whether the Korean spelling stands on the board from the start or only after a mistake. A word solved without help earns more stars. • MY WORDS shows every pack and your progress. If you already know some words, the placement test on a pack's page asks five of them without help. • PLAY is the arcade game. A word appears and its letters fall one at a time. You steer each letter into the column of its syllable: ㄱ becomes 고, and 고 becomes 과. Three difficulties, three lives, points for finished syllables and words. 시간 · NUMBERS AND TIME • Korean has two sets of numbers. The hour counts with the native Korean numbers. The minutes, the month and the day count with the Sino-Korean ones. • A clock, a calendar leaf or a time written in Hangul sits on top of a lock. You turn the number wheels until they match, and the lock opens. • You read the clock and the calendar, and you set them yourself. ALSO INSIDE • English, German and Spanish for every meaning and every menu. You choose the language at the first start and can change it in the settings. • Every word comes with its romanisation, following the Revised Romanization of Korean. • The letters are spoken by the Korean system voice of your device. Without that voice, everything except the listening exercises still works. • Music written for the app: calm pieces on the street and in the lessons. Music and sound are made on the device. • Arcade controls for two hands or for one hand. • Your progress stays on your device. A short progress code takes it to another device: you show the code on one and type it in on the other. NOT INSIDE • No ads. • No in-app purchases. • No account, no sign-up. • No data collection, no tracking. • No internet connection needed. The app works fully offline. WHO IT IS FOR For teenagers and adults who want to read and write Korean and would rather practise than learn a table by heart. You need no previous knowledge. Hankori does not replace a language course. You learn the script, a basic vocabulary, the numbers and the time. Grammar is not part of it.
