قال الشيخُ الإمامُ العالم العلاَّمة، شمسُ الدين أبو عبد الله، محمد بن قاسم الشافعي - تغَمَّده الله برحمته ورضوانه، آمين: الحمد لِلّهِ تبرُّكا بفاتحة الكتاب، لأنها ابتداء كل أمر ذي بالٍ، وخاتمة كل دعاء مُجاب، وآخر دعوى المؤمنين في الجنة، دار الثواب؛ أحمده أن وَفَّقَ مَنْ أراد مِن عباده للتَّفَقُّه في الدين على وَفْق مُراده. وأصلي وأسلم على أفضل خلقه محمد سيد المرسلين، القائل: «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ»؛ وعلى آله وصحبه مُدةَ ذِكرِ الذاكِرين وسَهو الغافلين. وبعد؛ هذا كتاب في غاية الاختصار والتهذيب، وضعتُه على الكتاب المسمى بـ «التقريب» لينتفع به المحتاج من المبتدئين لفروع الشريعة والدين، وليكون وسيلةً لنجاتي يومَ الدين، ونفعًا لعباده المسلمين؛ إنه سميع دعاء عباده، وقريب مجيب، ومن قصده لا يخيب. {وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ} [البقرة: 186]. واعلم أنه يوجد في بعض نُسَخ هذا الكتاب في غير خطبته تسميته تارة بـ «التقريب»، وتارة بـ «غاية الاختصار»؛ فلذلك سميته باسمين: أحدهما «فتح القريب المجيب في شرح ألفاظ التقريب»، والثاني «القول المختار في شرح غاية الاختصار».
