Full description
Sgeul Mòr hosts self guided tours. Select and download the tour and follow the directions given, listening to the audio presentation for each point on the tour. The first tour is in the Dams to Darnley Country Park, Glasgow. The park has many features of history waiting to be discovered as well as being a pleasant country walk. The park has 1360 acres of green belt space managed by Glasgow and East Renfrewshire Councils. The park is bordered by Barrhead in the west, Newton Mearns to the east and Darnley to the north. It has wetland, grassland, woodland, and working farmland and the main water course running through it is the Brock Burn. The second tour is the Glasgow City Centre Mural Trail. There are 28 murals to be found which are not only accessable free, fun works of art but it is a great way to explore the city centre. Each has an audio description including things to see or do nearby. The murals to find are: Strathclyde University Saint Enoch Saint Mungo Fellow Glasgow Residents Badminton - replaced in 2021 for COP26 with 'Indigenous Leaders' Space Man Billy Connelly Study of a Woman in Black 2 Study of a Woman in Black Charles Rennie Macintosh The Clutha Doctor Connelly I presume? Portrait Gallery Worlds Most Economical Taxi Honey...I Shrunk the Kids Wind Power Glasgow Panda Good as Gold Are ye Dancin'? Study of a Woman in Black 3 Bubbles Today we are in Love Aren't we? Swimmer Charing Cross Birds Lost Giant Musician Crazy Cat Lady Hand Shadow Puppets From the citycentremuraltrail website: The street murals are helping to rejuvenate streets and revitalise buildings and vacant sites that look a bit tired, reincarnating them as beautiful pieces of public street art. The first art work was produced in 2008 and this portfolio of completed works has expanded since. The murals are also having a major impact on our city centre by creating splashes of colour which brighten up lanes and streets. This helps make them more inviting for locals and tourists alike to visit and supports local businesses. Now Glasgow has created a Mural Trail featuring the diverse range of art within easy walking distance of the city centre. The huge range of artwork on display has something to suit all tastes - conservative to radical, quirky to bizarre. The street murals are unique pieces of art which Glaswegians, visitors and local businesses say are helping to enrich the city centre. Artists are encouraged to get involved in this Glasgow City Council initiative through application to the city centre Mural Fund, details of which can be found via this link: www.glasgow.gov.uk/citycentremuralfund Glasgow is proud of its local artists and their inspirational, colourful, installations. We hope you find the city centre Mural Map useful and enjoy discovering the hidden public art.
