Full description
Most apps on your phone want to know exactly where you are. Weather apps, food apps, browsers, social apps. Most of them don't really need it. GentleSquid is a mock location app and GPS simulator for Android. Set your phone's GPS to any spot on the map, replay a route or a recorded GPX track, or steer your location live with a joystick. Every app that asks for your location gets the one you chose. What it's good for: • Testing location features: geofences, delivery and ride tracking, fitness apps, region-specific content. • Stopping apps from logging your real movements. • Development work that needs a specific coordinate, or realistic movement, without leaving your desk. • Pointing travel and weather apps at a different city. Features: • Drop a pin anywhere: tap the map or search a place, then start mocking with one tap. • Favorites: save places you use often and jump back instantly. • Route simulation: chain waypoints, snap them to roads, and play them back at walking, cycling, driving or a custom speed, with looping. • GPX import and export: replay tracks recorded by fitness apps or GPS loggers, or export your own routes. • Joystick mode: steer your mock location in real time while the map pin follows along. • Saved scenarios: save a whole trip (route, movement mode, looping) and replay it with one tap. • Realistic GPS noise: position drifts smoothly and reported accuracy varies like a real receiver, instead of jumpy white noise. • Fine control: update interval, reported accuracy, speed, bearing, altitude and jitter. What this app promises: • No ads. Ever. • No tracking. No analytics, no telemetry, no usage stats sent anywhere. Mapbox telemetry is switched off. • No account. There's nothing to sign in to. • No subscription. Pay once, the app is yours. • No in-app purchases. How it works: GentleSquid uses Android's built-in mock location feature, the same one the Android SDK exposes for testing. No root needed. Turn on Developer Options, select GentleSquid as your "Mock location app", and it can override your GPS whenever you choose. The app walks you through setup on first launch. While a mock location or route is active, GentleSquid runs a foreground service with a visible notification, so you always know it's on. Stop it from the app or the notification. When it's stopped, nothing runs in the background. What stays on your phone: Favorites, routes, scenarios and settings are stored on the device and nowhere else. There are no servers behind GentleSquid. The only network requests go to Mapbox: map tiles, place-search text, and waypoints when you snap a route to roads. Your real location is never sent. Why it costs money: Built by one person. The price covers the developer account fee, the Mapbox bill and ongoing updates. No upsells, no follow-up purchases. If a bug shows up, the support email reaches a real human who will respond. Some apps (banking, many games) detect mock locations and may not work while it's active. Don't use GentleSquid to break another app's terms of service.
