Full description
Geeks in Kyoto is the language app for people who want to spend time in Japan: You're planning a trip. You have Japanese colleagues or friends. You're an expat and want to go beyond the basics. If you can't stand textbooks or gamified apps, this is the resource for you. Put on your headphones and listen while you commute or exercise. Set your level from beginner to fluent. You'll get a sequence of stories and related vocabulary, like an infinite podcast. Customize your listen experience with natural or 'newscaster' voices, more or fewer examples, pausing for recall. When you do have time to look at the screen, you can ask the AI tutor questions, look up a word, or roleplay what you're trying to say. In story book mode you see fully annotated text with pronunciation and grammar breakdown and you can take on the role of the main character. Type in what you'd like to say next. You'll see how to phrase it and say it correctly, and the rest of the cast will carry on the conversation for you. 90 minutes listening per day free during Early Access. Paid plans coming soon. Content is being added regularly. 7600 words and patterns, 68000 examples, 623 stories. Fully voiced - 83 hours of Japanese audio, 170 hours total.
