Full description

Tune anything with strings. Guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, cello, mandolin, banjo and more: 16 instruments and 29 tunings, from standard to DADGAD to drop C. Pick your string and the tuner listens for that note alone, which is what makes it accurate enough to trust. Hear what in tune sounds like. Every string has a reference tone modelled on a real plucked string, so you can tune by ear as well as by eye. Lessons that actually listen. Play a chord and the app tells you whether you played it. It hears the notes, shows you the twelve pitches it is picking up, and points at any string that is not sounding. Open strings, first chords, changes between shapes and barre chords, from easy to genuinely hard, all included free. A metronome that does not drift. The tempo is generated in the audio engine, not by a timer, so it stays exact however long you play. Free, and your microphone stays private. FretWise is free. It shows a small banner under the lesson list and the metronome and an occasional ad after you finish a lesson, never on the tuner and never while a lesson is listening. The microphone is analysed on your device; no audio is recorded, stored or sent anywhere. No account, no analytics.

What's new

Thirteen new lessons, with real material past the first barre: moving barre shapes, blues sevenths and a jazz turnaround. A chord library: every chord the app can hear, with its shape and its notes. Hear it, then play it and the app tells you whether you have it. Practice history: streaks, a daily goal, and five weeks of the days you played. Settings now offers a short video that turns ads off for 24 hours.
