Ifiunda teaches Bemba reading the way real literacy programs do: one building block at a time. Starting from the five vowel sounds and working all the way up to full sentences and real storybooks, it's designed for anyone who wants to learn to read Bemba, whether that's a child in Zambia, a learner in the diaspora reconnecting with the language, or an adult starting from zero. HOW IT WORKS Ifiunda is built around seven progressive levels: Vowels — the five core Bemba vowel sounds Simple syllables — combining consonants and vowels into syllables Simple words — building real words from syllables Blends & clusters — trickier consonant blends like "bw", "ng'w" and more Words — a wider vocabulary of everyday Bemba words Sentences — combining words into full, natural sentences Fluency — a free-reading library of real Bemba storybooks to put it all together Each level unlocks the next, so learners always know where they are and what's coming. LEARN BY LISTENING AND DOING Every sound, syllable, and word is voiced by a native speaker, so learners hear correct pronunciation from the very first tap. Levels mix things up with a variety of short activities — tapping sounds, building words piece by piece, matching pairs, spinning a sound wheel, unscrambling jumbled syllables, and more — so practice never feels repetitive. REAL STORIES, NOT JUST DRILLS Once the fundamentals are in place, the Fluency level opens up a library of real Bemba children's books sourced from Storybooks Zambia, organized by reading level from easiest to most advanced.
