EyeCon supports early rehabilitation and communication for patients with severe disorders of consciousness (DOC) — including minimally conscious state (MCS), severe TBI, and stroke — starting as early as the ICU. Many patients diagnosed as unconscious are still capable of processing information, perceiving their surroundings, and attempting to respond. EyeCon combines real-time brain activity monitoring (EEG) with subtle muscle response detection (EMG) — primarily blinking — to help identify a patient's first voluntary responses and build a path toward communication. This app is built for family caregivers, working under the remote guidance of licensed therapists, to run daily sessions at the patient's bedside — at the hospital or at home. KEY FEATURES • EEG headband pairing — connect and monitor a dedicated EEG headband over Bluetooth • Guided session protocols: - Protocol 1: Learn a voluntary "Yes" response through intentional blinking - Protocol 2: Establish differentiation between "Yes" and "No" responses - Protocol 3: Baseline cognitive assessment using individualized questions - Protocol 4: Build a customized communication system based on blinking and voluntary responses • Live cognitive engagement graph during sessions • Session history and clinician-authored consultation reports • Video calls with the supervising clinical team • Secure messaging and document sharing with the care team • Support for caregivers managing more than one patient CLINICALLY SUPERVISED Every session runs under the guidance of licensed therapists. EyeCon is a rehabilitation and communication support tool — it does not diagnose, and it is not a substitute for clinical judgment. Results are reviewed by the care team, not presented as automated medical conclusions. WHO IT'S FOR Family members and caregivers of patients with disorders of consciousness who want to participate actively in their loved one's rehabilitation, reducing dependence on limited availability of in-person therapy staff. Requires a paired EyeCon-compatible EEG headband and an active EyeCon care program enrollment.
