Mobis: Barefoot Agents

Mobis turns a phone or POS terminal into a branch counter, so a SACCO can serve its members where they actually are — in the market, at home, in the village. It is built for field officers: the barefoot agents who carry the institution to the member instead of waiting for the member to travel to a branch. Mobis handles the whole cash transaction, from finding the member to handing over a printed receipt. WORKS WHERE THE NETWORK DOES NOT Coverage should not decide whether a member can save today. Transactions are recorded on the device first and uploaded once a connection returns, so an officer never has to send someone away because the signal dropped. Nothing is hidden about what has reached the core banking system. A transaction captured offline reads as Recorded, and only becomes Successful once the server has confirmed it. The receipt says the same thing, so neither the officer nor the member is misled about where the money stands. EVERY CASH TRANSACTION AT THE COUNTER • Deposits into savings accounts • Withdrawals, checked against the balance actually available rather than the headline balance, so locked fixed-deposit funds are never offered by mistake • Loan repayment collection, with the outstanding balance in view • Transaction fees and the collecting branch, when they apply RECEIPTS ON THE SPOT Prints to the built-in printer on POS terminals, or to a Bluetooth thermal printer paired with a phone. The app picks whichever is available, so the same build works across mixed hardware in one institution. MEMBERS AND THEIR ACCOUNTS • Look a member up by name or account number • See their savings accounts and their loan portfolio • Register new members on the spot, including photo and signature • Recently served members stay one tap away for the next visit BUILT FOR ONE HAND AND A QUEUE The interface is designed for a five-inch terminal held in one hand while a member waits. • Amounts are entered on a large on-screen keypad, not a cramped soft keyboard • The confirm button never scrolls out of reach • Touch targets stay large enough to hit without looking down • A PIN lock protects the app when the device is put down FOR THE INSTITUTION Mobis is supplied to members' SACCOs and microfinance institutions and carries each one's own name, colours and receipt branding. Officers sign in with credentials issued by their institution. ACCOUNT REQUIRED This is a tool for staff, not a consumer banking app. You need an officer account from a SACCO or microfinance institution that uses Mobis. It cannot be used without one.
