The money tied up in empties is real money, and almost nobody counts it. Empties is the returnable-container and deposit register that does, entirely offline. ONE NUMBER, AT THE TOP What the deposits on every crate, pallet, keg, cage and tote still out there are worth - shown against a comfort line you set for yourself. It is the figure that never appears on a report until the day the crates run out. OUT AND BACK IN ONE GESTURE A driver drops six crates and picks four up. That is one booking on one screen, with the delivery-note number against it and the balance the customer will argue about shown before you save. Counters, not a keyboard - this gets used on a tailgate. AGEING WORKED OUT OLDEST-FIRST When ten crates come back, Empties clears the ten that customer has held longest, not the ten that went out last week. Any other assumption flatters the ageing. Every ageing figure in the app - the strip, the buckets, the oldest-out day count, the overdue goal - falls out of that one rule, applied per container type. A BALANCE PER CUSTOMER, PER CONTAINER How many crates, how many pallets, how many kegs. Issued, returned, written off, and what the outstanding balance is worth at the deposit you charge. With the share that has come back drawn as a bar, because that is the thing worth knowing at a glance. A STATEMENT YOU CAN HAND OVER Balances, ageing and the last twenty movements as plain text. The thing an argument about a delivery note is settled with, saved to the device or shared straight from the app. WRITE-OFFS THAT STAY HONEST Something that is never coming back clears the balance without pretending it came home. The return rate stays true and the loss is reported at replacement cost - what it actually takes to put another one in the yard - rather than at the deposit, which is rarely the same number. TWO PRICES PER CONTAINER The deposit is what every balance in the app is valued at. The replacement cost is what a write-off really costs. Both live on the container type, alongside what it currently has out against it. ROUNDS, NOT A SPREADSHEET Tag each customer with the round they are on and the ledger sorts itself for whoever is driving today. Filter to who is holding stock, who is pinned, or by the kind of customer they are. FIND ANYTHING Full-text search across customers, rounds, container types, every delivery-note number and every note, with five sort orders including oldest out. The whole ledger filed by the day it happened, with each day's totals in the header. INSIGHTS, ON DEVICE Six months of out against back, drawn side by side rather than stacked, so a month where more went out than came home is visible. Exposure by container type, the ninety-day return rate, and what the write-offs came to. All computed locally from your own ledger - nothing is uploaded to be analysed. GOALS THAT ARE NOT NAGS A value you would rather not have out at once, an age past which a container is overdue, a streak of weeks with something booked, and badges for the milestones a kept register passes. WHAT EMPTIES DOES NOT DO It adds up the movements you book and values them at the deposit rate you set. It is a register of your own containers, not an accounts system: it does not raise invoices, it does not know what your terms say about how long a customer may hold stock, and it cannot settle an argument about a delivery note nobody wrote.
