Firearm Owner SA is an independent study aid for South Africans working toward a firearm competency certificate and a firearm license. NOT A GOVERNMENT APP Firearm Owner SA is not a government app. We do not represent the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Professional Firearms Trainers Council (PFTC), the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), any accredited training provider, or any government entity, regulator or examination body. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or accredited by any of them. Firearm Owner SA does not provide or facilitate any government service. You cannot use it to apply for a competency certificate, apply for a license, book training or contact SAPS. NOT ACCREDITED TRAINING This app is a study aid. It is not accredited training and it issues no certificate. Only a training provider accredited for the relevant unit standards can assess you, and only SAPS can issue a competency certificate or a license. Nothing you do in this app counts toward either. The exams are one of them. Free. No account. No sign-up. THE WHOLE PROCESS A walkthrough from checking you are eligible to disposing of a firearm lawfully, showing who is responsible at each step. Your training provider runs the exams. PFTC quality-assures them. SAPS issues the competency certificate and the license. SIT THE PAPERS • Open book, untimed, worked through to full marks • Closed book, timed, marked against a pass mark you can set to match your provider • Questions drawn only from the registered assessment criteria for the unit standard THE BOOK IN OPEN BOOK Every note in the app, grouped by topic, searchable, and citing the section of the Act it comes from. The closed-book paper is drawn from the same questions as the open-book one, so reading it through is the preparation. KNOW WHERE YOU ARE LOSING MARKS Results are reported as Competent or Not Yet Competent, the way a statement of results is, and broken down by assessment criteria. Safety-critical mistakes are called out separately. WORKS OFFLINE Study, sit papers and read the reference with no connection. No account and no sign-up, and your scores stay on your phone - we hold no copy. Adverts need a connection, and so does the optional explain-this feature. HOW IT IS PAID FOR Free and funded by advertising. Everything is unlocked and there is nothing to buy. Studying, the reference and reviewing your mistakes are never behind an ad. Timed exam simulations past a small daily allowance can be unlocked by watching a short video. ACCURACY The content is a study aid written from the published Firearms Control Act and the registered unit standards. It is not legal advice, not firearms training, and not a substitute for the Act or an accredited instructor. Every answer names the provision it comes from so you can check it. Whether a particular use of a firearm is lawful depends on the facts and is a question for a legal practitioner. This app will not answer it for your situation.
