CoinScan reads the numerals, the legend and the mint mark, then names the country, denomination, year and type. Identification needs an internet connection; everything else in the app works offline. Every estimate is a range built from real listings on the open market, adjusted downward toward what coins actually fetch - asking prices always run high. Each range carries the source it came from and the date it was gathered. Where the data is thin, CoinScan says so on the price itself: exact match, same type and year, rough estimate from mintage, or metal value only. It never dresses a guess up as a fact. VALUE BY GRADE The same coin in Good and in Mint State are two different coins. CoinScan lays the range out grade by grade - P/FR, G, VG, F, VF, XF, AU, MS60-63, MS64-65, MS66+ - so you can see what condition is worth. METAL VALUE, CALCULATED EXACTLY For gold, silver, platinum and palladium coins, CoinScan works out the melt value from the coin's own weight and fineness at the current spot price, and shows you the date of that price. It is arithmetic, not an estimate. Copper and nickel are left out on purpose: they trade in industrial lots, and those quotes say nothing about a single coin.
