Full description
Codexa Reader is a self-hosted EPUB and comic book reader connected directly to your own Codexa server — this app is a feature-rich mobile client for your personal ebook library. IMPORTANT: This app requires a self-hosted Codexa server to connect to. It is not a book store and does not include any pre-installed books. You (or someone you trust) run the free, open-source server on a home NAS or VPS, then read offline with full cross-device sync. Learn how to set up a server at the project's repository page linked below. WHY CODEXA READER? • Built on CXReader — Codexa's custom EPUB reader engine designed for absolute reliability, faithful formatting, fixed-layout comics, and messy EPUB files alike. • Books and comics in one library — First-class support for EPUB, fixed-layout EPUB, CBZ, and CBR files without needing separate apps. • True two-way KOReader sync — Built-in KOSync server support keeps your e-reader and phone on the exact same page without third-party cloud services. • Multi-user self-hosted support — Per-user libraries, reading progress, highlights, and custom settings. • Privacy first — No cloud tracking, no ads, and no external telemetry. Everything lives securely on your own server. SUPPORTED FORMATS & CATALOGS • Formats: EPUB, Fixed-Layout EPUB, CBZ, CBR • Catalogs: Connect to any OPDS catalog (Calibre-Web, Komga, Kavita, Ubooquity) • Native BookOrbit integration: Browse server libraries, preview books, and sync reading statistics two-way READING & CUSTOMIZATION • Exact position restore — Reopens on the precise page, not an approximate percentage • Highlights & Notes — Four-color highlighting with optional notes and bookmarking • In-book search & Footnotes — Full-text search and popup endnotes/footnotes without losing your place • Local Dictionaries — Built-in StarDict dictionary lookup with full Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) word segmentation • Reading Modes — Bionic reading, two-page spread, fullscreen, and smooth auto-hiding toolbars • Page-turn animations — None, fade, slide, paper, momentum, or zoom • Themes & E-Ink — 7 themes (Light, Sepia, Dark, Midnight, Nord), custom theme engine, and a dedicated high-contrast E-Ink display mode OFFLINE & MOBILE ADVANTAGES • Full offline reader capabilities once books are downloaded • Hardware volume-key page turning, sleep timer, and visual sync status indicators • One-tap UI scaling optimized for both phones and tablets • Multi-user security with local accounts, JWT authentication, and SSO (Google, Apple, or custom OIDC) Codexa Reader is open-source software licensed under AGPL-3.0.
