Chess Master

Chess Master is a clean, fast chess board for your phone. No accounts, no ads, no clutter — just open it and play. PLAY YOUR WAY • Player vs Player — pass and play on one device. Perfect for two people sharing a phone on a train, in a queue, or across a table. • Player vs Machine — test yourself against a computer opponent that actually thinks about its position. AN OPPONENT THAT THINKS AHEAD The machine opponent searches several moves ahead using a minimax engine with alpha-beta pruning, and judges each position on more than raw material. It understands that a knight belongs near the centre, that pawns gain value as they advance, and that trading pieces is only good when it leaves it better off. It will punish a careless queen move and take a free piece every time. BUILT FOR PLAYING, NOT FIDDLING • Tap a piece and every legal move is highlighted — no guessing, no illegal moves. • Your king turns red the moment it is in check, so you never miss one. • Check, checkmate and stalemate are detected and announced automatically. • Promote a pawn and pick your new piece from a clear, simple dialog. • Captured pieces and a running material score sit above the board, so you always know who is ahead. POLISHED IN THE DETAILS Pieces lift and settle as they move. Wood and glass tones mark the difference between a quiet move and a capture. Subtle haptic feedback confirms every tap. The board is designed to be readable at a glance, in a layout that adapts to your screen. PLAYS ANYWHERE Chess Master runs entirely on your device. There is no server, no matchmaking queue and no waiting. It works on a plane, on the underground and in a basement with no signal — exactly the same as it works at home. PRIVATE BY DESIGN This app collects nothing. No personal data, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising SDKs, no account, no sign-in. Your games stay on your phone and are never transmitted anywhere. Read the full privacy policy for the details — it is short, because there is very little to say. FREE, WITH NO CATCH No ads. No in-app purchases. No premium tier, no unlockable pieces, no energy timers. The whole app is the whole app. A NOTE ON RULES Chess Master supports standard movement for every piece, check, checkmate, stalemate and pawn promotion. Castling and en passant are not currently supported — if you would like to see them, get in touch and they will go to the top of the list. Whether you are teaching someone the moves, settling a rivalry, or sharpening your own game against the machine, Chess Master gives you a board that stays out of the way.
