Full description
Glyvok puts you at an appraiser's bench with an antique scientific instrument in front of you and a claim attached to it: this maker, this place, this date. Your job is to work out whether the object agrees with that claim or is a later reproduction. THE CASE Each case opens with a briefing — what the instrument is, where it is said to come from and what the inspection is for. Then comes an ordered checklist: rotate the object and study its construction, magnify a maker's mark or assay stamp, work a mechanism, read the patina and how it is distributed, check proportions and scale spacing, weigh up the metals, alloys, substitutes and fasteners. Each observation you turn up has to be interpreted before the verdict, and the verdict has to be explained. TEN FAMILIES OF INSTRUMENTS Astrolabes, orreries, sextants, sundials, nocturnals, planispheres, armillary spheres, octants, quadrants and theodolites. REVIEW YOUR MISTAKES An observation you read wrongly is filed away with the original evidence and its explanation. Come back to it, and once you can account for the tell yourself, mark it reviewed. Practice concentrates on what you actually got wrong. SKILLS Five subjects taught in structured steps with worked examples: reading patina, decoding hallmarks, mechanism fit, proportion and layout, material analysis. Each moves from locked through learning to mastered. THE INSTRUMENT GUIDE An offline reference on all ten families: what the instrument is, how it works, when it was used, how it was built and which details speak to authenticity. Searchable and filterable by period, and linked from the cases so you can go from a problem to its background in one step. THE FIELD CHECKLIST A practical sequence for looking at an object in a museum, a saleroom, a collection or a shop, with a glossary of terms such as patina, provenance, anachronism and tool marks. YOUR RECORD Solved cases go to a collection. The profile keeps accuracy, current and best streaks, mastered skills and achievements. Everything is included in the app and runs offline with no account. This is a teaching simulation: it does not authenticate real antiques, establish provenance or estimate value, and any real decision needs a qualified specialist.
