Full description
Chaoscope — Where Mathematics Becomes Art Hidden inside the equations of chaos theory lie some of the most breathtaking structures the universe has to offer. Strange attractors — the fingerprints of chaotic systems — trace hypnotic, infinitely detailed forms that no artist could draw by hand. Chaoscope puts that raw mathematical beauty right in your pocket. This app is a modern Android reimagining of the legendary Chaoscope desktop tool originally created by Nicolas Desprez. His pioneering work introduced countless people to the visual wonder of strange attractors, and this app carries that torch forward — rebuilt from scratch for today's mobile devices, with the same spirit of exploration and discovery at its core. What are strange attractors? When certain mathematical systems evolve over time, they never settle into a fixed point or a simple loop. Instead, they trace an endlessly intricate path that folds back on itself forever without ever repeating. Plot millions of those points and a ghostly, luminous shape emerges — an attractor. They are deterministic, yet they look almost alive. Seven iconic attractors included Explore a handpicked collection of the most celebrated attractors in mathematics: Clifford — Swirling 2D ribbons defined by just four parameters Peter de Jong — Delicate, lace-like 2D patterns of surprising variety Gumowski-Mira — Organic, plant-like spirals that seem almost biological Lorenz — The famous butterfly, the attractor that launched chaos theory Rössler — A graceful folded band rotating through 3D space Aizawa — A jewel-like toroidal form with an eerie inner glow Thomas — A symmetric tangle of interlocking loops High-fidelity rendering engine Every image is built using a density histogram pipeline — the same logarithmic tone-mapping technique that made the original Chaoscope images so distinctive. Millions of trajectory points are accumulated into a high-resolution canvas, then mapped through a smooth logarithmic curve that brings out fine structure in both the bright cores and the faint outer wisps. The result is images with a cinematic depth that simple scatter plots can never achieve. Vivid, customisable colour palettes Choose from seven carefully crafted palettes — Nebula, Fire, Electric, Aurora, Matrix, Greyscale, and Greyscale Inverted — each designed to reveal a different mood hidden inside the same attractor. A fiery Lorenz feels like a solar eruption; the same system in Electric crackles like a lightning storm. The attractor is the skeleton; the palette is the soul. Full 3D camera control For the three-dimensional attractors, take the director's chair. Rotate freely around yaw, pitch and roll axes, zoom in to examine intricate structure up close, and find the angle that makes the attractor sing. Every viewpoint is a different picture. Why Chaoscope? Because some of the most beautiful things in existence are invisible to the naked eye — they only appear when you let mathematics run for long enough. Because the boundary between science and art can dissolve completely. Because staring at a Lorenz butterfly or a Rössler band is genuinely calming in a way that is hard to explain but easy to feel. Whether you are a mathematician who wants a quick visualisation tool, an artist looking for endlessly novel generative forms, a student encountering chaos theory for the first time, or simply someone who finds these images beautiful — Chaoscope is for you. A tribute to Nicolas Desprez, whose original Chaoscope application inspired a generation of enthusiasts to look at mathematics differently. This app exists because of his vision. Dive in. Let the chaos unfold."

What's new

• All-new video export: size presets (768, 1080 or 9:16 for Reels) and flexible duration • Turntable can now spin on any axis — yaw, pitch or roll • New HD dot density option for extra-crisp video frames • Preview your animation live on the canvas before exporting • Sweep mode shows its random target up front, with a re-roll • Live wallpaper retired to keep the app lean Enjoying Chaoscope?
