Full description
REAL CHESS. OFFLINE. TWO PLAYERS ON ONE PHONE. ONLINE WHEN YOU WANT. NO ENERGY BARS. NO SUBSCRIPTION. NO SIGN-UP. Chess that works on a plane, on a train, or in the middle of nowhere. A complete chess board game, with everything already in it. NO INTERNET, NO ACCOUNT, NO SIGN-UP Install it and play. The computer opponents, the tutorial and the two-player chess board all work with the phone in flight mode. Nothing asks you to register before you can play. A FRIEND ON THE SAME PHONE Put the phone on the table between you and take turns. Every piece turns to face whoever is to move, so nobody plays the game upside down, and the board is the full width of the screen. It is the oldest way to play chess, and it is here properly rather than as an afterthought. TEN COMPUTER OPPONENTS, FROM BEGINNER TO MASTER Ten levels of a real chess engine, not ten names on a list. Start with one you can beat and move up until you find the one who beats you. Every one of the ten is there from the first minute: move the slider and play. None of them costs anything, now or later. THE RULES ARE ALL THERE Castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate and stalemate, and every way a chess game is actually drawn: the fifty-move rule, threefold repetition, and insufficient material. The move generator is checked against the standard reference positions, so what the board lets you play is what the laws of chess allow. EVERY PIECE SET AND EVERY BOARD, INCLUDED Enamelled ivory and ebony, the vector set drawn for this app, cave people with a tyrannosaur, an arcade of cabinets and joysticks, robots and flying saucers, lions and tigers, and the plain Unicode glyphs. Three board colours to go with them. All of it open from the first minute: nothing to unlock, and no set kept back to sell you later. A CLOCK, IF YOU WANT ONE Play with no clock at all, or set the time you start with and the seconds you get back after every move. Nobody is hurrying you unless you asked to be hurried. LEARN CHESS BY PLAYING The tutorial is not a slideshow to skip. It is a real chess game against the weakest opponent, with hints while you need them and one tap to turn them off when you do not. EVERY GAME, JUDGED MOVE BY MOVE Games are kept on the phone and can be replayed move by move. The engine reads the whole game back and says what each move cost against the best one available, so you can see the move that decided it instead of guessing. Moves are written in proper notation, the way they are in a chess book. AND WHEN YOU WANT SOMEBODY REAL Four online chess tables against real people. The low table is open to everyone; the middle, high and demon tables open as you level up, and the demon table gives you ten seconds a move. You see the entry cost, the prize and the clock before you sit down, and you can challenge anyone you see online by name. The entry cost and the prize are coins. Coins are part of the game and nothing else: they have no cash value, there is nothing to cash out, and no real money can be won here. You earn them by playing, and you can buy more if you would rather not wait. A RANK YOU CLIMB, AND A BOARD YOU APPEAR ON Every online chess game moves your rating. The leaderboard shows name, country, rating and games played, and your rank has an emblem that changes as you climb. The rating is yours in this game alone: nothing is carried over from another game. EARN AS YOU PLAY Coins for every game against the machine, a free chest and a free spin of the wheel every day, and a streak that pays extra spins on the fifth day in a row. Miss a day and the streak starts again, because otherwise it would not be a streak. NO ARTIFICIAL LIMITS No energy bars. No lives. No waiting to play again, and no subscription of any kind. This chess board game is free and carries advertising, and a single one-off purchase removes it for good. Chess in nine languages: English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Turkish and Greek.
