Full description
A Bible that stays out of your way. Nothing ever covers the words. No advertisement when you open the app. Audio that resumes exactly where you left off. No account, ever. Most Bible apps interrupt. This one does not. A small banner sits along the bottom edge, below the player when you listen; it never covers the text and never needs dismissing. No full screen advert is ever shown over what you are reading, and nothing at all appears inside a reading plan. Adverts are muted always, so they cannot sound during a service. Watch one short video and every advert, banner included, goes for a day. READING Three translations are built in and ready the moment the app opens: the World English Bible in modern English, the King James Version, and the American Standard Version. Nothing to download before you can read. Set the way a printed Bible is set. Psalms and the prophets are laid out as poetry with indented lines, not run together as prose. Psalm titles sit above the psalm. Words of Christ in red. Words the translators supplied are italicised, as in print. Their own footnotes are there to tap. Choose text size, line spacing, typeface and theme, in light, sepia or dark. Large Print is a single tap, not a slider buried in a settings page. Fast search across all 66 books, ranked by relevance rather than book order, with your words marked in every result. Type a reference like "john 3" and go straight there. LISTENING Narration of the whole Bible, and it resumes where you stopped. Not the start of the chapter, not the start of the book, but the second you left. That holds after you close the app, after it is killed, and after your phone restarts. Seek to a verse, not only to a chapter. The text follows the narration as you listen, and you can switch that off. Sleep timer at 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or at the end of the chapter. Playback continues with the screen off, with controls on the lock screen. There is also Read Aloud, which uses your device's own voice. It sounds synthetic next to a real narrator, but it highlights each word on screen at the moment it is spoken. Useful for reading with children, for anyone learning English, and for anyone who follows a page more easily with a voice setting the pace. Audio is never bundled, so the app stays small. Keep a book at a time on your device, with the size shown before anything starts, and delete it whenever you like. MARKING AND KEEPING Highlight in five colours, by word or whole verse. Bookmark anything. Write notes on any verse. All of it stays on this device. Reading plans from 21 days to a whole year, with progress kept locally. Leaving a plan never deletes the days you finished. No streaks, and nothing that scolds you for missing a day. Export my data writes everything you have made to a file you keep. There is no cloud; this is how your notes leave the device. Cross references on any verse, from a set of 340,000. A daily verse, with a silent reminder at seven in the morning. Move it or switch it off in one tap. It never nags. WHAT THIS APP WILL NOT DO No account, no login, no cloud sync. No advertisement on launch. No launcher replacement, no screen overlays, no lock screen takeover. No AI chat, no direct messages, no social feed. Six permissions belong to the app: internet, network state, notifications, two for background audio, and one to keep audio playing with the screen off. Google's advertising library adds four for the advertising identifier. Ten in total, against the thirty to forty-six this category commonly asks for. The app uses the internet for adverts and for audio. No personal information ever leaves your device. TEXTS AND CREDITS World English Bible, public domain, from eBible.org. King James Version, public domain in the United States. American Standard Version, public domain. Cross references from OpenBible.info, licensed CC BY 4.0. World English Bible audio from eBible.org.
