Bloc Focus is a focus timer with study music built in, for anyone who wants a study session to start in three taps and stay uninterrupted. Most focus timer and study music apps interrupt the session they sold you: a full-screen ad, a pop-up for a lifetime plan, a paywall before you have played a single minute. Bloc Focus gives you one full focus session every day, with no ads and no pop-ups while the session timer is running. Pick a session length — the free 25/5 pomodoro, or 50/10, 90/15 and your own on Premium — pick one of four instrumental study sounds (lofi, ambient, rain, instrumental), and press DROP IN. Your last choice is remembered, so the next study session starts in three taps. HOW A SESSION RUNS A session is a chain of focus blocks with a break between them, the way a pomodoro timer works. The study timer counts down a block, a soft chime marks the boundary, and the break timer takes over while the music dips — so you can look away from the screen and still know where you are. Every fourth block earns a longer break. You can turn the chime off in Settings. The music keeps playing across the breaks, so a 25/5 session is thirty continuous minutes of sound and a 50/10 session is sixty. A long study session stops itself after a few hours rather than running all night, and you choose whether that is one, two or four hours. WHO IT IS FOR Students revising for exams, anyone doing deep work, remote workers who need a work timer that does not nag, and people who study late and do not want a productivity app shouting at them. If you already use a pomodoro timer and a separate playlist, this is both in one screen. THE SOUNDS Over 150 instrumental tracks across four moods, with no talking and no lyrics to read against. Lofi for study beats. Ambient for something closer to silence. Rain, which is steady rainfall rather than white noise. Instrumental for something brighter and jazzier. New music is added without you needing to update the app. The music is AI-generated, instrumental, and licensed for commercial use. Saying that here rather than letting you find out later. THE FREE TIER IS NOT A TRIAL A full focus session every day, reset at midnight, no card asked for — and it runs to the end, it is never cut short. A day is only spent when a block runs down to zero, so ending early costs you nothing. Want longer study sessions, or more than one a day? There is a yearly plan and a one-time plan, and the price is shown before anything is asked of you. There is no monthly plan here. The thing people forget to cancel is the thing we decided not to sell. Cancel in one tap, from inside the app, and Premium runs to the end of what you paid for. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO, HONESTLY There is no music download — the four bundled sounds play without a connection, and everything else streams. The library is small next to a streaming service. The free tier is one session a day, at one length. And if all you want is free study music, a YouTube playlist genuinely works and costs nothing — this is for people who want the timer and the quiet together. TRUST Streak-shaming is off by default and stays off, and we never send notifications about a broken streak. There is a reduced-motion mode for anyone who finds animation distracting.
