Full description
Birch Panels is a sliding puzzle where the tiles are not numbers. They are panels of a drawing, cut into pieces and hung on rails inside a shallow birch box. One slot in the box is empty. Tap a panel that touches it and the panel rides its rail into the gap. Nothing else moves, nothing is ever lifted out, and there is no wrong move you cannot undo by sliding back. Keep sliding until every panel is home and the drawing is whole again. There are ten pictures, and none of them is a photo. Each one is drawn by the app itself out of large simple shapes: a birch grove with white trunks, dawn on flat water, three peaks under a low sun, a still wave, a single birch leaf, a row of pines in the snow, a moon over a lake, bark rings, a chevron weave and a sun diamond. Big shapes cut into clean pieces, so even a scrambled board tells you where things belong. Two board sizes. Three by three is eight panels and a few quiet minutes. Four by four is fifteen panels and a proper sit-down. There is no five by five on purpose: at that size a slice of a drawing stops being readable, and the puzzle turns back into numbers. The panels look like louvre slats, with a fine horizontal grain and a lit top edge, so you can see which way a panel sits even when the picture on it is a plain band of colour. A small number in the corner of each panel helps during the last few moves. If you want the picture and nothing else, switch the numbers off. Stuck? Show whole picture lays the finished drawing over the board for a second, then takes it away. You get three peeks a round. Rounds finished without a single peek are counted separately, in case you like the harder way. Peeking can be switched off completely. The picture ribbon on the start screen shows all ten drawings as small panels, with a mark on the ones you have already put together. Stats keep the count of pictures collected, the fewest moves and the fastest time on each board size, how many rounds you solved and how many of those were solved without peeking. Nothing here hurries you. No countdown, no lives, no streak to protect, no round that ends because a bar ran out. When the picture is whole a calm card tells you the moves and the time, and offers another round or the way home. Everything stays on the phone. No accounts, no sign-in, no network calls, no ads and nothing to buy. Features: - Sliding puzzle where the tiles are pieces of a picture - Ten pictures drawn in code, no photos and no downloads - Two board sizes: three by three and four by four - Panels ride rails inside a shallow birch box - Show whole picture for a second, three peeks a round - Optional small numbers in the corner of each panel - Picture ribbon marks the drawings you have collected - Fewest moves and fastest time kept for each size - Rounds solved without a peek counted separately - Works fully offline
