Full description
Currently beta version with more developing and updates to come. Bible Changes is a scholarly study tool for the King James Bible — built for laypeople who take the text seriously and for researchers who want the evidence fast. It does one thing most Bible apps don't: it shows you, verse by verse, where the familiar KJV text differs from the earliest surviving manuscripts, and explains why. Everything runs offline. The full King James Version and the World English Bible — all 31,102 verses — are bundled in the app, alongside a deep library of scholarship. No account, no sign-up, and no internet required for the core experience. SEE THE TEXT BEHIND THE TEXT Color-coded manuscript variants: verses are flagged red (major), orange (significant), or yellow (minor) where they differ from the oldest manuscripts — from well-known passages like Mark 16:9–20 and John 7:53–8:11 to subtle wording changes. A clear, sourced explanation for each variant: what changed, which manuscripts support each reading, and what scholars make of it. Reader Mode for clean reading, or Scholar Mode for variant highlights, word studies, and the full apparatus. EXPLORE THE WORLD OF THE BIBLE 20 manuscript profiles — papyri, the great codices (Sinaiticus, Vaticanus), and the Dead Sea Scrolls — with dates, contents, and discovery stories. Ancient parallels: compare 12 texts from Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Canaan (Gilgamesh, Enuma Elish, and more) with the Hebrew Bible. A library of extra-biblical and deuterocanonical texts, including 1 Enoch. Profiles of biblical people and the Twelve, the supernatural realm of angels and other entities, and an Explore tab with starting points for the questions people actually ask. Deep dives into difficult and disputed passages, presenting traditional and critical perspectives side by side. HONEST, ACADEMIC, BALANCED Bible Changes is a reference tool, not a sermon. It presents published scholarly consensus and multiple viewpoints, draws on standard critical editions, and aims to be accessible without dumbing things down. Variant classifications are editorial judgments based on the scholarship, and are labeled as such. STUDY TOOLS Notes linked to specific verses, plus highlights and bookmarks. Word study with Strong's definitions. Your reading position and open tabs are remembered between sessions. OPTIONAL AI ANALYSIS (BRING YOUR OWN KEY) For deeper, on-demand analysis — timelines, theology, textual apparatus, and source summaries — the app can use AI powered by Claude. This is entirely optional and uses your own Anthropic API key, so you stay in control of usage and cost. The app is fully functional without it. PRIVACY BY DESIGN No ads. No tracking or analytics. No account required. Your notes and data stay on your device. Full privacy policy: https://sites.google.com/view/biblechangesprivacy/home Bible Changes is for anyone who has ever wondered what the oldest copies of the Bible actually say — and wanted to see the evidence for themselves.
