See live lightning and storm radar on one map, know how close the nearest strike is, and get an alert the moment lightning moves into your area, so you can get to safety before it strikes. WHAT YOU GET Live lightning on the map, updated in real time, with a clear status that tells you whether lightning is striking nearby, approaching, or clear. A 30-minute all-clear countdown based on the National Weather Service 30-30 guidance, so you know when it is safe to head back outside. High-resolution storm radar for the whole country, plus your closest local radar for detail. Official National Weather Service warnings and watches, including tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flood, shown right on the map with the affected counties. Follow-your-location alerts that move with you, plus saved places like home, work, or the field, so the people and places you care about are always covered. Current conditions and an hourly forecast at a glance. HOW IT KEEPS YOU SAFE All lightning is dangerous. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck, and a single bolt can travel miles from the storm that produced it. Before It Strikes watches the sky for you and speaks up early, so heading to shelter is a decision you make with time to spare, not a last-second scramble. BUILT ON OFFICIAL DATA, HONEST ABOUT THE REST Official National Weather Service warnings are always the source of truth in the app. Our live lightning detection is experimental situational awareness that supplements those warnings. It is clearly labeled as experimental, and it is never a substitute for an official warning or for professional lightning-safety guidance.
