Full description

Basira is an assistive visual application designed to support blind and low-vision users in understanding their surroundings more easily and independently. The app uses the camera and voice interaction to provide useful information about what is in front of the user. It can help describe scenes, read visible text, identify surrounding objects, and allow the user to ask questions by voice. Basira includes local assistance features as well as Basira AI, which uses cloud-based artificial intelligence to provide more advanced descriptions and conversational assistance. Some cloud AI features require a subscription through Google Play. Key features include: • Describe scenes captured by the camera. • Read visible text aloud. • Voice interaction with Basira AI. • Continuous listening when explicitly enabled by the user. • Background voice assistance during an active session, with a persistent notification. • A simple and accessible interface designed for blind and low-vision users. • Local assistance features that remain available without a paid cloud subscription. Basira is designed as an everyday assistive tool. It is not a medical application and does not provide medical diagnosis or treatment. Privacy is important to us. Camera and microphone access are used only according to the features selected by the user and the permissions granted on the device.
