Full description
Hello Train plays real train sounds, shows photographs of real locomotives and names every one of them. Open a door, Engines, Passenger cars, Cabooses, Work trains or More trains, and you are looking at a photograph of a real train: an Amtrak Genesis, a Chesapeake and Ohio caboose. Tap it and it sounds. Behind the Train sounds door, tap a tile and you hear an actual Nathan AirChime K5LA, or a Prussian P 8 steam whistle. Each sound carries its model, its maker and its chime count. PICTURES FOR YOUR CHILD, WORDS FOR YOU Your child does not need to read a word. Big photographs, big tiles, one door deep and a big Home button back. Tap a picture and it plays its sound. When the sound ends, the next train rolls in by itself, or sooner with the tab at the edge. A tap while a sound plays does nothing, so a busy finger never restarts it. While a tile's sound plays, its drawing moves as the real thing does: rings from a horn, steam from a whistle, crossing lamps flashing, a barrier lifting, a bell swinging. The words are there for you to read together. Every picture has a page about what is in it: who built it, where and when, how many were made, for an engine its power and pulling force, and a few short facts to read aloud. Stranger machines, like a rotary snowplow, explain how they work. 113 photographs behind five doors, and a button in each room lays them out as thumbnails. THE TRAIN SHOW, HANDS FREE FOR THE CAR Tap Train show and the trains come one by one, shuffled: each photograph with its sound, and the moving drawings from Train sounds. In settings, choose the doors it shows, sound on or off, how long each train stays (its sound and five seconds more, or 10, 20 or 30 seconds), and whether it plays once or keeps going. End stops it. With the toddler lock on, a touch cannot stop it and End asks for the parent gate. FOR THE TRAIN FAN IN THE FAMILY Parents, grandparents and railfans of any age can trust the names. A photograph names the class and who runs it. Facts are sourced, and a disputed one is left out. Where a recording's notes did not name the horn, the app says "likely". It never claims the engine pictured carries the horn you hear. Every recording and photograph is credited to its open archive. PARENTAL CONTROLS A volume limit, whatever the device is set to. A sleep timer. A switch for the rooms moving on by themselves. A star moves a favorite sound to the top, and any sound can be hidden from the whole app. A toddler lock that hides settings, stars, fact pages and anything that leads to a purchase, while pictures and sounds keep working. Settings and purchases sit behind a parent gate a small child will not get through by accident. WHAT IS IN IT Diesel horns: the Nathan AirChime K5LA, P5 and M5, the Leslie SuperTyfon S-3L and S-5T, the WABCO E2, and horns from Germany, Spain, Thailand, Taiwan and Queensland. Steam whistles, among them a Prussian P 8 and Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014. Locomotives running, from a 1940 Krupp tank engine to British Rail diesels. Level crossing signals from Germany, Belgium, France, Japan and Australia. Subway door chimes, wagons coupling, a San Francisco cable car and the Wuppertal suspension railway. The grade crossing signal, sounded by an engineer on a Nathan AirChime M5: long, long, short, long. HOW THIS APP BEHAVES No ads. Not now, and not ever. No analytics, no crash reporting, no tracking of any kind. No accounts, no sign-in, and no way out of the app except behind the parent gate. No games, no scores, no stickers to collect. It works offline. The one thing it checks is whether the full set has been bought. Fifteen sounds and forty-one photographs are free to use. One purchase adds the remaining fifty-two sounds and seventy-two photographs, permanently. There is no subscription and nothing expires. Hello Train is not affiliated with or endorsed by any railroad or transit operator.
