Full description
AWAS calculates the five daily prayer times, and sunrise, from the position of the Sun, on your phone, from the coordinates of the place you choose. Every time is computed rather than looked up in a table, so any place and any convention gives an answer. The convention is yours. Thirteen published ones ship with it, you can write your own, and every prayer takes a correction in whole minutes, so the times can match your mosque's timetable. None of that needs a network. There is no server behind it, no account to make, and no advertising. The app does not declare the internet permission at all, so it could not send your information anywhere. WHAT IT DOES • Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha, with a live countdown to the next one, laid out by the Gregorian or the Hijri day, Maghrib to Asr • A full month at a time, in either calendar, in a timetable you page through • The Hijri date by the rule you follow: Umm al-Qura, a forecast of the Moroccan or Algerian announcement, your own sky, or the Istanbul 2016 calendar the Diyanet and the CFCM follow • The daily voluntary prayers of one school at a time, on a clock of their own • The Quran readings a hadith ties to a time, coloured for tajweed • The qibla: a compass to the Kaaba from the place you chose, not from where the phone is, with the bearing and the distance, and a warning when metal nearby makes it unreliable • Thirteen published calculation conventions, among them Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura, ISNA, Karachi, Diyanet, Musulmans de France, and the ministries of Morocco and Algeria • Both Asr schools: standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) and Hanafi • As many places as you like, each with its own method, corrections and calendar • 12,366 towns to pick from, or type coordinates by hand • Private notes against any date, kept on the device, never backed up • Alerts at each prayer, and an optional reminder up to 30 minutes before • English, French and Arabic, following your device until you choose • Light and dark THE DAILY VOLUNTARY PRAYERS A section of its own sets out the daily nawafil for one school at a time: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i or Hanbali. Nothing is chosen for you: the first visit asks which school to show. Each prayer is drawn on a 24-hour clock and listed with its degree in that school's own terms and its rak'ah. An outer ring carries the times in which ordinary voluntary prayer is prohibited or discouraged. It reports what the schools hold, rules on nothing, and does not follow what you have prayed. THE QURAN SECTION A section opened from a round button holds al-Fatiha, then the surahs and passages a sahih or hasan hadith ties to a time, such as al-Kahf on Friday and al-Mulk at night. Each one names its hadith and any scholars who dispute it. The Hafs text is coloured for tajweed, with a key to the colours and another to the signs. ALERTS ON YOUR TERMS A prayer alert arrives the way you choose: a silent mark in the notification shade, a vibration, the device's own notification sound, or the adhan in your own recording, with a second one for Fajr if you like. Sound and adhan both follow the ringer: a phone set to silent stays silent, and the alert offers a tap to hear the adhan anyway. HONEST ABOUT THE HARD DAYS Countries do not begin a Hijri month on the same day, and no calculation knows what a commission will announce. If an announcement differs, move the date up to two days either way, and it stays moved. Above roughly 48° of latitude there are dates when the Sun never reaches the angle a convention asks for. AWAS then shows a dash for that prayer alone and says why, rather than inventing a time, and keeps the others and their alerts. WHAT IT KEEPS, AND WHERE Your places, your conventions, your corrections and your notes are files on your phone. Uninstalling deletes them. Android's backup can carry the first three to a new phone; your notes stay on the device you wrote them on.

What's new

• New: a Quran section, opened from a new round button. It holds al-Fatiha, then the surahs and passages a sahih or hasan hadith ties to a time, such as al-Kahf on Friday. Each names its hadith and any scholars who dispute it. • The Arabic text is coloured for tajweed, with a key to the colours and another to the signs. • Fixed: a new version of AWAS released less than three days after the last update offer was never offered. It is now offered as soon as it is on Google Play.
