A volunteer rescue or ambulance service runs on people giving their own time, around the clock — and the one thing that quietly breaks it is a shift nobody's actually covering, usually discovered only when a call comes in and there's nobody there. Holding the whole week in one coordinator's head, or scattered across a chat group, is often the actual weak point in a service built to be reliable. Duty Vigil keeps that week properly instead. Each day shows its shifts as a short chain, every one either covered by a named volunteer or flagged plainly as open. Claiming a shift that already has someone down for it is refused outright, so the roster can never quietly show two people covering the same slot. A dedicated view lists every uncovered shift across the coming weeks, soonest first, so a coordinator always has a real, ordered answer to "what needs covering right now." A separate read compares each volunteer's own share of shifts against the group's average, surfacing a genuine imbalance only once there's enough of a pattern logged to judge it fairly. Duty Vigil coordinates coverage. It has no emergency-dispatch function of any kind, and makes no claim about response time or the service's own reliability — it only tracks who's down for what. It also holds no money anywhere in it: volunteers give time, and nothing here is paid, owed or tracked as a stipend or allowance of any kind. Everything stays on the phone it's used on. There is no account, no sign-in, and no data of any kind sent anywhere.
