Grand Enigma is a vintage-styled brain-teaser you solve one station at a time — from London Paddington through York, Edinburgh, Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Bern, Milan, Venice, Vienna, Budapest and, at last, Istanbul. Each stop on the Grand Tour opens a compartment of hand-written puzzles, and the line only rolls onward once you have earned your keep. There are no timers counting you down and no lives to lose — just you, a notebook, and the quiet satisfaction of a riddle undone. WHAT YOU'LL SOLVE Eight kinds of puzzle share the timetable, each with its own flavour: ✓ Riddles — read the verse, name the thing it describes. ✓ Lateral-thinking cases — explain the strange scene in your own words. ✓ Cryptic clues — the crossword-setter's art, wordplay and definition in one. ✓ Ciphers — turn the Caesar wheel and read the stationmaster's coded note. ✓ Logic grids — cross-reference the clues until only one arrangement fits. ✓ Rebus puzzles — read the picture and the letters together, out loud. ✓ Deduction mysteries — weigh the suspects and the evidence, then accuse. ✓ Anagrams — rearrange the smudged chalk-board letters into the answer. HOW THE JOURNEY WORKS Solve a puzzle with no help and earn a Gold medal; lean on a hint or two for Silver; take all the help offered for Bronze. Medals fill your carriage, unlock the next station down the line, and top up your supply of Conductor's Hints so you always have a way forward. Finish roughly two-thirds of a station's puzzles and the whistle sounds for the next. THE CONDUCTOR'S HINTS Every puzzle carries three progressive hints, nudging without spoiling. Spend a hint for a clue, or reveal the answer outright when a puzzle simply won't yield — the choice, and the medal, are yours. Solve well and your hint balance grows, so a careful traveller never runs dry. A DAILY BONUS Ride the Observation Car once a day for a bonus puzzle drawn fresh each morning — the same one for every traveller — and add a Traveller's Prize to your case.
