The kettle never answers right away. Kettle Whistle is a calm-but-tense heat management game built around one honest physics quirk: water has thermal lag. Tap the flame on, and the temperature doesn't jump - it drifts upward. Tap it off, and it keeps rising a moment before it starts to fall. Managing that lag, not just reacting to a number, is the whole game. Keep the temperature inside the warm band and your tea steeps. Push it too hot for too long and the whistle meter climbs - let it max out and you wake the house, losing a point of calm. Let it drift too cold for too long and the tea just sits there going nowhere - that costs calm too. Both directions are a real threat, and the lag means you have to act before you think you need to. Each steeping needs a stretch of in-band time before the next one starts, and every steeping after that narrows the band and speeds up the swings. Run out of calm and the kettle goes cold for good, but your best steeping and total cups steeped are always saved to beat next time.
