Full description
I made Soil because I wanted to try small HTML and JavaScript ideas on my phone without first setting up a web server on a laptop. Soil runs a little web server on your Android device. You drop a folder of plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript into its web root and Soil lists it on a home screen and serves it like a real site — proper secure context, service workers, the lot. Each of these small apps is called a Plant. A Plant can be a one-screen tool, an API tester, a clock, or a whole game. Edit the files on the device with the built-in editor, or mount the web root over WebDAV from your computer and use your usual editor over the local network. Anything that builds to static files works. Plants run in a sandboxed WebView. When a Plant needs more than a web page normally gets — its own private file store, a small SQLite database, or a network request that skips CORS — it asks once, per Plant, and you can review and revoke what you granted in Settings. Everything stays on your device. Soil has no account, no analytics, and collects nothing. Plants you add are your own or third-party web apps and behave however they are written. It started as a personal tool. If it is useful to you too, that is a nice bonus.
