Sky Field Notes

Meteorit Detector is your personal journal for meteor watching and field finds. Plan a night under the stars, record bright fireballs, and document interesting rocks with photos, locations, and notes. PLAN YOUR METEOR WATCHING Check the darkness window, moonlight, cloud cover, and active meteor showers for your selected city. Choose an observing location and prepare for your next session. KEEP AN OBSERVATION JOURNAL Start an observing session, count the meteors you see, and save your results. Build a personal record of your nights under the sky, including sessions when no meteors appear. RECORD A FIREBALL QUICKLY Spotted a bright flash? One tap saves the time in a local draft. Add the estimated direction, duration, color, sound, and other details when you are ready. DOCUMENT YOUR FIELD FINDS Keep photos, coordinates, and notes together for each sample. If your phone has a magnetometer, compare changes in the magnetic field against a baseline reading. EXPLORE VISIBLE FEATURES IN PHOTOS When an external AI service is configured, you can submit photos for comments on visible features and suggestions for further examination. Photos are sent only after you confirm. KEEP YOUR RECORDS PERSONAL Your observation and find journals are stored on your phone. Precise coordinates are hidden on share cards by default. Meteorit Detector is designed for astronomy enthusiasts, meteor shower observers, and anyone who wants to keep an organized record of field finds. IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS The app helps you assess observing conditions; it does not predict when a meteor will appear. Fireball directions are your estimates, not measured trajectories. Magnetometer readings show changes in the magnetic field and cannot identify a meteorite. Photo comments cannot confirm a sample’s origin. Confirming a meteorite requires expert examination. supports: [email protected]
