Full description
Understand ROS 1 move_base by seeing the whole navigation loop, changing its inputs, and diagnosing failures from evidence. Robot Navigation Visual Guide is an independent, offline-first learning app for students, educators, and engineers who need a clear mental model of the classic ROS 1 navigation stack. It teaches concepts; it does not connect to or control a robot. LEARN THE PIPELINE • Follow 25 guided lessons from ROS 1 scope and robot bringup through the Master, topics, services, catkin, roslaunch, TF, RViz, map_server, AMCL, actionlib, move_base, planning, local control, costmaps, recovery, simulated time, rosbag, and diagnostics. • Trace MoveBaseAction goals, action states, goal tolerances, map → odom → base_link, OccupancyGrid maps, observation sources, nav_core plugins, cmd_vel, and base safety boundaries. • Compare Navfn, GlobalPlanner, CarrotPlanner, DWAPlannerROS, TrajectoryPlannerROS, and external TEB at a conceptual level. EXPERIMENT OFFLINE • Explore interactive visual labs, including one Foundations Studio with four beginner mini-labs for robot bringup, map YAML, AMCL, and ROS time; an animated warehouse world; architecture map; recovery sequence; costmap studio; footprint editor; planner/controller comparison; TF timeline; action viewer; parameter sandbox; troubleshooting arena; and warehouse capstone. • Pause, rewind, adjust parameters, and inject deterministic faults without requiring ROS, a robot, or a network connection. • Diagnose stale transforms, blocked paths, bad inflation, footprint errors, controller oscillation, and localization jumps. REVIEW AND BUILD EVIDENCE • Practice with scenario questions and 50+ spaced-review flashcards. • Search the glossary, bookmark material, and keep progress on device. • Work through local projects, assignments, and safe Python/C++ reasoning exercises. • Build a repeatable troubleshooting habit around TF, costmaps, plans, cmd_vel, odometry, logs, rosbag, and parameter evidence. • Earn a personalized, locally generated educational Certificate of Completion after passing all lesson checkpoints, a 25-question final assessment, six fault diagnoses, and all three capstone zones. The on-device certificate is not accredited or externally verified. IMPORTANT The simulations are educational models, not hardware benchmarks, robot-control software, or a substitute for supervised testing and safety systems. ROS 1 Noetic reached end of life on May 31, 2025; this app supports learning, maintenance, and migration preparation for legacy systems. Learning content and progress work offline. Network access is used for consent and a dismissible sponsored card, plus external links you choose to open. No account or cloud profile is required. The learner name, performance evidence, and certificate record stay on the device unless you explicitly share the generated certificate PDF. This independent app is not affiliated with or endorsed by Open Robotics.
