La RECOSFA se crea como una herramienta para recopilar información de mortalidad de vertebrados en la malla vial de Colombia. Se busca que esta información ofrezca criterios para la reducción y prevención de los atropellos de fauna. La información que se pretende obtener incluye: especies más afectadas, mayor concentración de atropellos (puntos negros), así como las condiciones particulares de estos dentro de las carreteras colombianas. RECOSFA recopilará y procesará datos de atropellos de fauna, recibidos de varias fuentes y bajo distintas metodologías. La información resultará a partir de censos y monitoreos sobre las vías realizados por grupos organizados, o del reporte eventual de atropellamientos por particulares. La red proporcionará los protocolos metodológicos, los formatos y las herramientas informáticas necesarias para la recolección y análisis de la información. La RED busca convertirse en una iniciativa participativa donde se agrupen todos los investigadores, entidades y ciudadanos interesados en unir esfuerzos para ayudar al conocimiento y búsqueda de soluciones a esta problemática
