Le Coran (qui signifie la récitation en langue arabe). C’est le livre sacré de l'Islam. Le Coran contient la parole de Dieu (Allah), révélée au prophète Mohammed (Mahomet) par l'intermédiaire de l'archange Gabriel (Jibril). Le Coran se compose des chapitres, appelés sourates (sourate). Une sourate se compose de plusieurs ayates (versets).il y a 114 sourates et 6236 ayates (versets). Les sourates ne sont pas classées dans l'ordre chronologique de leur révélation, mais dans l'ordre dans lequel le prophète Mahomet les a classées. Chronologiquement, le premier verset s'appelle "Iqra" qui signifie lire. Mais la première sourate du Coran est appelée la Fatiha, qui signifie l'ouverture, et est composée de 7 versets.
