Faceto

Faceto is an archaeology excavation game 🎮. Pick a site 🏗️ archetype, set a permit scale and crew size, and a hill full of buried layers, finds, and dates is generated for you to uncover one trench at a time ⏱️. Tap 👆 a square on the site 🏗️ grid to open a trench, then excavate its exposed context with a trowel, spit, or mattock. Each method trades speed ⚡ for recovery and damage, and sieving the spoil pulls more charcoal, lithics, and bone out of the ground at the cost of extra days. Digging, dating, and conserving all draw on the same season of days and funds, so every choice on one trench affects what is left for the rest of the site. Everything recovered lands in an assemblage store, where pottery, bone, and other finds sit at a condition that keeps dropping until they are conserved. Finds can be filtered by class, condition, and trench, and sorted by when they were recovered. Samples go to the lab bench for radiocarbon dating, contexts can be grouped into phase groups, and a free 🆓 chronology model builds a sequence from what has been recorded. Once enough is recorded, draft a report 🧾: review warnings such as floating contexts with no surviving relationship, write a narrative, and publish. Publishing closes the excavation for good and grades it against the buried truth of the site 🏗️, scoring how much was recovered, how accurate the chronology is, and how much the dig itself destroyed along the way. Faceto keeps track of multiple excavations at once, each with its own dig, finds store, lab bench, and report 🧾. Settings cover date notation, the credible interval used for dated ranges, and a field manual explaining how the grading works.
