Telzam

Telzam is a bending bench for people who bend wood, whether by laminating thin plies on a form or by steaming a solid blank and pulling it round under a strap. It works through the job the way a joiner's setting-out rod does: 1. Draw the curve. Set the radius, arc length and finished thickness, then pick the species, the method and the glue. Telzam draws the bend to scale on a baseline with station ticks and writes out the ordinate table 📋 you mark the form from. 2. Read the numbers 🔢 first. The engine works out how many plies and how thick, the smallest radius the species will take with or without a strap, the steaming time ⏱️ for your stock, and how far to over-bend the form so the piece relaxes onto the curve you wanted. 3. Glue it up and release it. Photograph the piece clamped on the form and again once it is off, place pins along it, and Telzam fits an arc to each photo 📸 and measures the springback. No photo to hand? A chord and rise from a ruler gives the same comparison. 4. Cut the next form. The measured springback is written back into the bend as a corrected form radius. Once you have closed three bends for a species and method, Telzam can use your own measured springback in place of the textbook rule.
