MEC Smart Lock

Your lock, your phone, and nothing in between. MEC Smart Lock controls the MFPD780 door lock over Bluetooth. There is no account to make, no subscription, and no server holding a copy of your key — the app has no internet permission at all, so it could not phone home if it wanted to. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Open the door from your phone, in Bluetooth range. • See the lock's battery, and when it was last opened. • Add and remove ways in: PIN codes, fingerprints and cards, each one named for whoever it belongs to — so "the cleaner" is a thing you can revoke, not a code you have to remember. • Name your locks, and keep more than one. • Back up your keys to an encrypted file, or print a written record. • Restore onto a new phone from either one. ABOUT THE KEY A lock creates exactly one key, when you first claim it, and your phone holds the only copy. That is what makes the lock yours and not a vendor's. It also means the backup matters: if the key is lost, the door still opens with a physical key, codes and fingerprints — but managing the lock needs a factory reset that erases every credential on it. The app asks you to back up before it lets you get far. BEFORE YOU BUY THE PHONE A LOCK This app works with the MEC MFPD780 (also sold as the R780 or R7). It needs Bluetooth and an Android 8.0 phone or newer. It does not work over the internet, so you cannot open your door from work — that is the trade, and it is the point.
