TreeScribe

TreeScribe is the field app of the Savanna Institute's tree crop breeding programs. It records data on every plant together with its accession, its row and position, and its history, so a person walking a planting records what they see against the right plant. Work it does in the field: - Photograph a plant and the photo is named for that plant, filed by trial and by day, and sent to your program's Google Drive. - Score traits from your Breedbase trait list, one tap per value. The trait you recorded last is offered first. - Count burs or other fruit on a tree, including a separate count of what is on the ground. - Record harvest bags against the bush they came from. - Write or dictate notes about a plant, or record a spoken remark as you walk, filed with the track of where you were. - Record a plant's position from a connected GNSS receiver, to within a few centimeters. It is built for places with no signal. Everything is recorded on the phone and sent when a network appears, and a trial's drone imagery can be downloaded beforehand so the map works with no connection at all. Trials, plant identities and trait definitions come from your program's Breedbase instance over BrAPI v2, so the app never invents an identity of its own. Nothing is written back to a breeding database from the phone: records go to your program's own storage, and a breeder reviews them before anything joins the database. Hazelnut, chestnut, persimmon, elderberry and currant are supported today, and adding a crop is a configuration entry rather than a separate app. Access is by invitation: each person is given a personal access code by their breeding program, and the app records nothing without one. The code is not a Breedbase credential and grants nothing on Breedbase.
