Full description
Your photos should be yours alone. Privacy Photo moves photos and videos out of your gallery and into an encrypted vault on this phone. Nothing is ever uploaded, because the app cannot upload. It ships without the internet permission, so Android itself blocks every network connection it could try to make. WHY IT IS DIFFERENT No internet permission. Not a promise not to upload, but a limit Android enforces. You can check it yourself in your phone's app info screen. No account. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to sign in to, no email address to hand over. Your vault lives on this phone and nowhere else. No analytics and no tracking of any kind. Nothing in here is watching what you keep. HOW YOUR FILES ARE PROTECTED Every photo and video is encrypted with AES-256 before it is written to storage. The key is random, created when you set up the vault, and it only exists in memory while the vault is open. Your PIN, password or pattern is what unwraps it. Without that, the files cannot be read by anyone. Each file also carries an integrity tag, so damage or tampering is detected and reported to you instead of showing up as a broken photo. Videos play straight from the encrypted file. No readable copy is written to your storage in order to watch one. LOCKING Unlock with a PIN, a password or a pattern, and switch between them whenever you like. Use your fingerprint or face if your phone supports it. The vault locks the moment you leave the app. You can relax that to 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, or lock only by hand. Block screenshots, which also keeps the vault out of your recent apps preview. A decoy vault opens from a second code. It is a completely separate vault with its own photos, and nothing anywhere in the app hints that your real one exists. Break-in alerts record every failed unlock attempt, with an optional photo from the front camera. BRINGING PHOTOS IN Pick photos and videos with Android's own picker, so the app never asks for access to your whole gallery. It only ever sees the items you choose. After each one is encrypted, the app reads it back and verifies it before offering to remove the original. You are only asked about deleting a gallery original once the private copy has been proven readable, and Android asks you to confirm. GETTING BACK IN Save a recovery key when you set up the vault. It is the one way back if you ever forget your code. Export an encrypted backup to any folder you choose. It holds your files exactly as they are stored, so only your code or your recovery key can open it. Restore it later on this phone or on a new one. Save any item back to your gallery, or share it, whenever you want. The temporary copy that makes this possible is wiped as soon as the vault locks. EVERY DAY Albums, including hidden ones that stay out of the list until you ask for them. Search, sort, and filter by photos, videos or favorites. A recycle bin, so a mis-tap is never final. Deleted items stay encrypted and are erased after 7, 14 or 30 days, or only when you say so. A storage screen showing exactly what the vault is using, album by album. Dark mode, light mode, and a grid you can size to suit your eyes. Nothing here needs a connection. It all works on a plane, in a tunnel, or with the phone in airplane mode for good. Please keep your recovery key somewhere safe and away from your phone. Strong encryption means that if you lose both your code and your key, nobody can open your vault, and that includes us.
