Drop

Drop is a small app for keeping up with the five people you actually talk to. Not five hundred. Five. YOUR FIVE - Circle You pick five people, and they have to pick you back. A circle is something you both agreed to, not a list you built about someone. Everything you say to your five stays. Messages, photos, video, all of it, for as long as you both want it. EVERYONE ELSE A message from anyone outside your five disappears ten minutes after you open it. If you never open it, it goes after a day. Nothing to clear out. Nothing sitting on a server years later waiting to be found. WHAT YOU CAN OFFER Say what you are giving away, lending, or happy to help with. People near you see it, up to four steps out from your own circle. Your phone number is never attached to it. If someone wants what you are offering they send a request, and a conversation only opens if you say yes. YOUR NUMBER IS YOURS Nobody sees your phone number unless the two of you have kept each other. It is never shown on an offering and never handed to a stranger. IT LIVES ON YOUR PHONE What you keep is held on your own device. Our server carries things and stops holding them once they arrive. There is no archive of your conversations, because there is nothing to archive. That is a real trade and worth saying plainly: if you reinstall the app, your old chats do not come back. They were never anywhere else. IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG Block anyone you have kept, and neither of you can message the other. They are not told. Report a person, a message, or an offering, and a real person reads it. Nothing happens to anyone's account automatically. Delete your account whenever you like. Everything on our side goes, and what is on your phone goes with it. WHAT DROP ASKS FOR, AND WHY Your phone number, to make an account. Your contacts, only to check which of them are already on Drop. The check happens and the list is thrown away in the same breath. Nothing is stored. Your photos, camera and microphone, only while you are attaching something. Most apps are built to want more of your attention. Drop only wants five people. That is the whole thing.
