Full description
Overview PVS and its advanced form, PPWVS (Paired Proportional Weighted Voting System), offer a modern, transparent, and fair alternative to outdated systems like First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) and Instant Runoff Voting (IRV). PVS uses ranked-choice ballots and pairwise comparisons to ensure majority-supported outcomes. PPWVS builds on this by translating voter preferences into proportional legislative voting weights. Together, they eliminate vote splitting, promote fair representation, and reduce political polarization. Core Features: - Ranked-Pair Voting (PVS): Voters rank choices from best to worst. Every possible pair is compared to compute wins, ties, FORS, Choice Ratios, and more. Final rankings reflect majority support across all matchups. - Proportional Representation (PPWVS): Extends PVS by assigning legislative voting weights based on pairwise support. Proportionality is calculated using top matchups and Choice Ratios. - Condorcet Compliance: Always selects the correct majority-supported ranking, even in complex scenarios. - Will-Not-Do (WDC) Option: Allows voters to reject all candidates. If WDC wins, a re-election is triggered. - Transparency: Real-time results with full visibility into vote breakdowns, including FORS, Choice Ratios, and pairwise outcomes. How It Works: 1. Voter Input: Voters rank candidates. Ties and skipped entries are allowed. 2. Pairwise Comparison: Each candidate is evaluated against every other. 3. Candidate Ranking: Sorted by - Total Wins (over 50 percent FORS) - Number of Ties - Total FORS - Choice Ratios - First-place votes (used as a tiebreaker) 4. PPWVS Legislative Weighting: The FORS percentage between top candidates determines voting weight in legislative bodies. Example: Candidate X with 55 percent FORS against Y receives a 0.55 voting weight. Advantages Over Traditional Systems: - Minority rule: FPTP and IRV can elect winners with less than 50 percent support. PVS and PPWVS guarantee majority-backed outcomes. - Vote splitting: Common in FPTP and IRV. Eliminated with ranked input in PVS. - Proportionality: Weak or absent in FPTP and IRV. Built into PPWVS weighting. - Voter impact: Many wasted votes in other systems. Every ranking matters in PVS. - Transparency: Traditional systems are opaque. PVS provides full vote visibility. Use Cases: - Political Elections: Produces majority-supported winners while reflecting minority viewpoints. - Corporate Governance: Proportional board elections using shareholder-weighted votes. - Competitions and Awards: Aggregates judge preferences logically and fairly. - Community and Budgeting: Helps reach consensus in public or nonprofit decisions. Technical Highlights: - Security: Encrypted ballots, audit logs, tamper resistance. - Scalability: Vote shards ensure efficient cloud-based computation. - Localization: Multilingual support and adaptable to different regions. Why Democracies Need PPWVS: - In Canada's 2015 election, 60 percent of voters opposed the winning party. PVS would have delivered a majority-backed outcome. - PPWVS reduces polarization by encouraging candidates to appeal beyond their base. - The system works for presidential, parliamentary, or hybrid electoral models. Implementation Roadmap: 1. Use PVS in single-winner elections like mayoral races. 2. Apply PPWVS for proportional legislative voting. 3. Expand to corporate boards, competitions, and global organizations. Try It Now: Simulate elections, explore proportional representation, and engage stakeholders in democratic reform using this app. "A true democracy requires a system where every vote shapes the outcome." - Denis J. Alarie
