Full description
Lo Maya is the complete guide to the Maya world: a full-length book, detailed entries on the great cities, interactive maps, and a search tool that answers your questions. All in one application, in five languages. A WHOLE BOOK, NOT A SUMMARY Twenty-one illustrated chapters. How the Peten filled with people, how they wrote, what they ate, how they made war, how they counted time, what happened around the year 900, and what is still unknown. It is written to be read straight through, like a real book, and it is as long as one. You will not find certainties here that nobody has. Where something is disputed, we say so, and we leave the question open. THE WRITING, THE CALENDARS, THE NUMBERS How Maya writing works: the glyphs, the syllables, how to read a block, how a name is signed. Explained from nothing, with examples, taking no prior knowledge for granted. The calendars, which are several and turn at once: the 260-day Tzolk'in, the 365-day Haab', the Calendar Round, the Long Count. Explained until they are genuinely understood. And a DATE CONVERTER: type any date and get its equivalent in Long Count, in Tzolk'in and in Haab'. Your birthday, today, the date carved on the stela in front of you. The arithmetic too: the base-twenty system, the bar and the dot, the zero — used here centuries before it reached Europe. THE ILLUSTRATIONS Created for this work, some with the help of artificial intelligence. They accompany every chapter and every city, and they are part of the reading, not decoration. 39 CITIES, WITH DETAILED ENTRIES An interactive map of the Maya cities that matter. Each has its own entry: its founding, its dynasties, its wars and alliances, its monuments, what is left today and what was lost. These are not three encyclopedia paragraphs — they are long, documented histories, written one by one. The names appear as their inhabitants used them — Mutul, Uxte' T'uun, Lakam Ha, Oxwitik — with the modern name alongside. SITE PLANS YOU WALK, WITH YOUR GPS This is what no other application does. Open the plan of the city you are standing in, press one button, and your position appears live on the terrain relief surveyed by lidar. You walk among the ruins seeing exactly where you are and what stands in front of you. Every structure has its own entry, with photographs: what it was for, who had it built, what was found inside. Mutul (Tikal) and Uxte' T'uun (Calakmul) are finished, georeferenced to within a few meters. More will come, and you will get them without paying again. CHATBO'OTIK, THE SEARCH THAT ANSWERS Ask it anything about the book and it answers from what is inside. Offline it searches your phone; online it answers in more detail. FIVE LANGUAGES Spanish, English, French, Catalan and German. Switch whenever you like, without downloading anything again. AND IT WORKS WHERE THERE IS NO SIGNAL Everything is inside the application: the book, the images, the maps, the site plans. Archaeological zones almost never have coverage — that is why it is built this way. No advertising, no account to create, no data collected. You buy it once and it is yours. For Yucatan, Campeche, Chiapas, the Peten, Belize and Honduras — and for reading at home before you go.

What's new
