Full description
Ember Forge is a blacksmithing game built on a real model of hot steel. There is no timing minigame standing in for the work. The billet has a temperature, it has a shape made of twenty-four segments, and every blow you land moves actual metal. READ THE COLOUR The billet heats in the coals and cools the moment you pull it out — and a piece you have already thinned cools faster than a thick one, because there is less of it. Between 800 and 1150 degrees the steel moves. Below that it does not move, it only bruises, and the stress you put into it starts to add up. Above 1200 the grain burns, and burnt grain never comes back. The gauge shows you exactly where you are. WHERE YOU STRIKE MATTERS Tap the billet to hammer that point. The blow thins the segment you hit and pushes the displaced metal outward into its neighbours, falling off with distance — mass is conserved, so nothing appears from nowhere. Behind the billet sits a dashed ghost outline of the profile you are trying to reach, and a live match readout tells you how far off you still are. HOW HARD YOU HIT MATTERS TOO A power meter runs back and forth while you work. Where it is when you strike is how hard you strike. A heavy blow moves a lot of metal and raises a lot of stress; a light one is precise. Thin a spot too far and you can fold it and start that section again. THE QUENCH IS ITS OWN TEST When the shape is right, reheat into the narrow blue band between 780 and 830, then press and hold QUENCH until the water stops boiling. Too hot and the piece warps or cracks. Too cold and it stays soft and grades badly. This is where a good piece is lost. THREE FAILURES, ALL EARNED Burn the grain and the piece is dead. Crack it in the water and it is dead. Run out the clock on a commission and the client leaves with nothing. None of these is a random punishment — each one is the direct consequence of a temperature you let get away from you. THREE WAYS TO WORK - Commission: a named client, a required profile and a clock. - Free Forge: no target, no clock, no reward. Just the anvil, for learning the feel of it. - Master Trial: one billet, one attempt. Fail and it is over. BETTER KIT, BETTER STEEL Marks earned from commissions buy four lines of equipment. Bellows raise how fast the coals bring the billet up. Hammer raises how much metal a full-power blow moves. Anvil lowers the stress every blow adds. Tongs make the piece hold its heat longer off the fire. Each one changes a constant the simulation reads — the Workshop screen prints the exact percentage. THE LEDGER AND THE GUILD Every piece you finish is graded Cracked, Serviceable, Fine or Masterwork and recorded, with your career totals, best work and streaks. Guild rank runs from Apprentice upward on renown, each with its own struck insignia, and the top two equipment levels open with rank rather than with Marks. NO ADS, NO PURCHASES, NO ACCOUNT No network permission, no advertising, no sign-in, nothing to buy. Everything is stored on your device.
