Compression, merging, splitting, page management and cropping may remove the selectable text layer. PDF to Word, Excel, Text, HTML and EPUB conversions use the document's existing text layer. Images, tables and complex layouts may not transfer exactly. Scanned documents may need OCR first. Web to PDF creates a PDF from webpage text and main images rather than a pixel-perfect copy of the original layout.
